Japanese Sword, WWII era, having a 24" blade steel blade, the blade tang (nakajo) is unmarked, a sharkskin and wood handle with silk wrapping held to the tang by a wood peg, housed dark brown painted scabbard within brown leather, the entire sword blade has been covered with lacquer as a rust protector, the blade is overall good but with a 1/8" nick about 12.25" from the tip, sword overall approx. 37"l, 2.55lbs    *Provenance: Comes with an aluminum lapel marked "Japanese Imperial Army officers Samurai sword. Gift of brother of Laney Mueller. Mankayan (Philippines) 1945". Victor E. Lednicky (1888-1970), resident of Philippines, from c.1914, Chief of the Division of Mines and Mining of the Bureau of Science, later President of Lepanto Consolidated Mining Co., a copper, gold and silver mine. Lednicky was General MacArthur's civilian liaison for Manila during WWII and participated in the Battle of Manilla.
