What lighting is worth at auction
The factors below are listed most decisive first. A preliminary evaluation costs nothing — send photographs and our specialists will tell you where yours sits.
- Maker and attribution
- Signed Tiffany Studios, Handel, Pairpoint, and named Murano houses occupy a different market from unsigned decorative lighting of the same period.
- Pairs and sets
- Lighting is bought for rooms, so pairs of sconces and matched sets sell for meaningfully more than twice a single. Keep them together.
- Original condition
- Original patina, original glass, and original crystal matter. Sympathetic rewiring for safety is expected and does not hurt; replacement shades, arms, and mismatched crystal do.
- Completeness of crystal
- On a chandelier, missing prisms and mismatched replacement drops are immediately visible and reduce value. Send any loose crystal with the fixture.

Does rewiring hurt the value?
No. Safe, sympathetic rewiring is expected on antique lighting and buyers prefer it. What hurts is replacing original components — sockets, arms, canopies — that could have been retained.
Are single sconces worth selling?
Yes, though pairs and sets do considerably better. Singles are usually grouped or offered with related lots.
Do you handle very large chandeliers?
Yes. Scale is not a barrier for catalogued sales — we regularly sell large fixtures, and we will discuss removal and transport for qualified estates.
