Frequently Asked Questions

Do you handle complete estates, or only individual high-value items?

We regularly evaluate and sell complete and partial estates — fine art, jewelry, antiques, furniture, rugs, silver, Asian works of art, decorative arts, and general household contents. Between our monthly catalog auctions and our Warehouse sales, most of a typical estate can sell through Austin Auction Gallery.

Do you pick up estate contents?

For qualified estates and substantial consignments, yes — we coordinate professional packing and transport to our 25,000 sq ft Austin gallery, and your property is insured while in our possession.

Do I have to bring everything to you?

No. For larger estates and collections, start with photos, a phone call, or an appointment. For smaller consignments, you're welcome to bring items to the gallery — walk-ins are welcome during business hours, though appointments ensure a specialist is available.

Who should I call to sell a house full of antiques in Austin?

That's exactly what we do. Austin Auction Gallery has handled complete estates of antiques, fine art, and household collections in Central Texas since 1983 — one call, one walk-through, and a plan for the whole house.

How is an auction different from an estate sale company?

An estate sale prices items for a weekend of local foot traffic. An auction opens your property to competitive bidding from collectors and dealers nationwide and worldwide — with no ceiling on what competition can produce. For fine art, jewelry, silver, and antiques, specialist cataloging and a global bidder pool typically produce stronger results than fixed-price tags in a driveway.

What does estate consignment cost?

Our commissions are published and straightforward: 16% to 39% depending on sale price (higher-value property earns lower rates), applied per lot and deducted from the hammer price. There's no charge for a preliminary evaluation.

How long until the estate is settled?

Most estates can be included in the next suitable monthly auction. Following the sale, you receive a detailed settlement statement and payment within 30 business days.

Do you work with executors, trustees, and attorneys?

Yes, routinely. We provide written estimates, itemized settlement statements, an insured facility, and a transparent process suited to fiduciary requirements. Austin Auction Gallery is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (License #8069).

Can you sell firearms from an estate?

Yes. We regularly handle antique and collectible firearms that meet federal and state requirements — a common component of Texas estates that many auction houses and estate sale companies can't accept. All firearm consignments are documented and appraised for historical and market value.
