U.S. Springfield Trapdoor Rifle, Model 1884, mfg.1892, .45-70 caliber, 32.1/8" barrel, two barrel bands, rod bayonet, fixed blade front sight, stacking/sling swivel, adjustable Buffington rear sight, barrel marked at left near breech: "V, P, eagle, P", marked A at barrel top, breechlock marked "US Model 1884", lock plate marked with eagle next to "U.S. Springfield", rectangular inspector "SWP" mark at left wrist dated 1882, sling swivel on trigger guard, the hardwood stock stamped "14" near butt plate, the butt plate with port and marked "U.S." at upper tang, wood with scratches and dings, barrel, metal brown/silver, action good with hammer holding at three stops and responsive to trigger, bore bright with strong rifling, SN 552882   * Provenance: Collection of T'Odon Charles (Chuck) Leshikar, Jr., (Texas,1946-2020), Vietnam, U.S. Army Lt. ,“Delta Raiders,” D Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, later Echo Company commander, Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, Soldiers Medal, Purple Heart.
