(lot of 2) U.S. Entrenching tools: (1) U.S. Model 1873 Trowel Bayonet for use with the U.S. Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Rifle, mfg. by the Springfield Armory, the triangular blade is approx. 9.75"l and 3.5" at its' widest point, the blade has no markings, the handle is steel and retains the partial internal walnut handle, the back section of the handle rotates counter clockwise allowing the walnut handle to be removed and the trowel fit onto the rifle, housed in the "Type 2" leather over steel brass tip scabbard, trowel is silver tone with a few dark spots, no nicks, overall very good condition, scabbard with tears and leather and belt loop loss, trowel with scabbard measures 16.75"l; (1) U.S. Army Entrenching Tool, 1880's, having an 8.25"w, 3.5"w shovel like blade, one side of the blade with a 1/8" lip, the turned hardwood handle stamped "US" near the blade and the pommel stamped "26", housed in a leather over steel scabbard stamped at the upper right front "U.S.", the silver tone blade with some dark spots but overall in good condition, the scabbard with surface cracks and loss to edges, and lacks circular belt loop, overall approx. 13.25'l, for shipping total of both 2.60lbs Provenance: Collection of T'Odon Charles (Chuck) Leshikar, Jr., (Texas,1946-2020), Vietnam, U.S. Army Lt. ,“Delta Raiders,” D Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, later Echo Company commander, Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, Soldiers Medal, Purple Heart.
