Southeast Asian carved hardwood religious figure, likely Burmese (Myanmar), depicting a Nat deity, seated with one elbow resting on bent knee, with parcel gilt face, ebonized body, body with remnants of silver gilt, wearing stepped headpiece topped with lingam, rising on integral shaped platform, approx 26"h, 13"w, 9.75"d, 16.75lbs Provenance: From Donald and Renate Van Stone's Austin, Texas estate. Donald Van Stone served as the Regional Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago from 1971-1984, a time in which the bank was expanding internationally. After assignments in Germany, Kenya, and Australia, the Van Stones moved to Manila, Philippines where they began amassing an impressive collection of Chinese and Southeast Asian art and artifacts, some of which will be offered in this auction.
