Large Southeast Asian carved hardwood temple figure, likely Thailand, modeled as the Buddha standing with arms raised to waist and fingers facing, with various colored glass and mirrored mosaic inlay, elongated ears and stepped headpiece, remnants of a parcel gilt finish, rising on stepped wood stand, figure: approx 45"h, 9.5"w, 9.25"d, overall on stand: approx 50.5"h, 9.5"w, 9.25"d, 25lbs Provenance: From Donald and Renate Van Stone's Austin, Texas estate. Donald Van Stone served as the Regional Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago from 1971-1984, a time in which the bank was expanding internationally. After assignments in Germany, Kenya, and Australia, the Van Stones moved to Manila, Philippines where they began amassing an impressive collection of Chinese and Southeast Asian art and artifacts, some of which will be offered in this auction.
