(lot of 2) U.S. Model 1878 Canteens, Rock Island Arsenal, likely used in WWI: (1) U.S. Model 1878, steel with a cork at the spout, he sewn on canvas cover marked at one side "47" (47th Infantry Division),  the opposite side marked "F" over "JPS", triangular attachment hooks at two sides, retaining a leather strap with brass hooks marked "Rock Island Arsenal" and inspector initials "HEK"; (1) the sewn on cover marked at one side "G" (hard to read), "60 over U.S. over 44", this example having a canvas strap marked at one side "R.I.A. 1905", for shipping canteens excluding straps are 8" x 10", x 3, total of both 2.10lbs Provenance: Collection of T'Odon Charles (Chuck) Leshikar, Jr., (Texas,1946-2020), Vietnam, U.S. Army Lt. ,“Delta Raiders,” D Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, later Echo Company commander, Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, Soldiers Medal, Purple Heart.
