Early 1900'S Texas Confederate Battle Flag

Confederate Battle flag forensically examined and dated post 1900, single sided, approx. 41" X 41", housed in a wood frame, the flag having faded colors, machine sewn border, and machine sewn St. Andrews Cross with 12 hand sewn on stars, numerous tears and holes, this flag is modeled after the Confederate First Bunting issue flags made by local sewing circles in Richmond, Virginia, c. May 1862, the 13th star would be added to later flags reflecting the addition of Kentucky into the Confederacy in December of 1861, the likely inspiration of this flag was the return of captured flags to southern states by the U.S. Government in 1905, specifically a similar flag in appearance was returned to Texas that had been captured at Antietam Creek, Sharpsburg, Maryland in September,1862, it was taken from the 1st Texas Infantry Regiment, Hood's Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia (the regiment suffered 82% casualties including three flag bearers in this battle). That flag is now in the Texas state archives, for shipping the flag wood and glass frame is approx. 50" x 49.5", 56lbs Provenance: Purchased by our consignor in Buffalo, Leon County, Texas, c. 2000. The seller stated that it was found in family properties in that area. Records indicate that more than 80% of the male population of Leon County joined the Confederacy. Speculatively, it is possible that a CS descendant was inspired by the well publicized and publicly displayed 1905 flag return and had this flag made.
