French Louis XIV style carved walnut highback armchair/ fauteuil, 19th c., having padded back and seat in worn 18th-century tapestry upholstery, with petite and gros point needlework, the back depicting a Catholic archbishop's coat of arms, oval cartouche with three swords, among birds and foliate scrollwork, the seat depicting a crown of thorns, with tassel and nailhead trim, rising on scrolled supports, joined by cross stretcher, approx 46"h, 24"w, 22"d, seat height: approx 17"h Provenance: The collection of Kathryn V. Alexander, an antiques dealer and designer with over 20 years of experience operating shops in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Middleburg, Virginia. Kathryn retired in 2020 and now lives in Georgetown, Texas
