American silver (content unknown) christening cup/ mug, central shield cartouche with engraved inscription "Roger Sherman Baldwin Foster April 21st, 1857," commemorating the subject's birth date, with repousse floral motifs and foliate scrollwork, rising on circular foot with running ornamentation, unmarked, some light denting throughout, approx 4 5/8"h, 5.25"w, 3.75"d, 6.09ozt Note: Roger Sherman Baldwin Foster (American, 1857-1924) was a lawyer most remembered for his role in dropping the charges against the participants of the Homestead Strike in 1892 Provenance: The lifetime collection of Lynn Roth Jordan (Louisiana, Texas, 1943-2021). As an active member of the Austin Antiques Club for many years, Lynn was deeply embedded in the antiques community here in Austin. Her New Orleans upbringing in a family of collectors (many of the pieces come from her mother's estate), combined with her frequent trips to England, gave her a unique understanding of provenance, quality, and historical significance. The estate features an extensive array of English furniture alongside antique decorative objects, the kind of exceptional pieces that only reveal themselves to collectors who know where to look and what to seek.
