Native American silver (content unknown) bolo tie, Virgil Benn (Zuni, 20th c.) and Shirley Benn Nampeyo (Hopi/ Tewa, b.1936), modeled as Koyemsi (Mudhead) Katsina, channel-inlaid with turquoise, shell, red coral and jet, reverse with bolo slide clasp and pendant hook, silver bolo tips, braided black leather cord, ornament signed V. & S. Benn, bolo ornament only: approx 3 1/8"h, 1.75"w, 42.2 grams (inclusive of all materials) Provenance: the collection of a psychiatrist who taught at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas in the 1960s and went on to become a founding faculty member of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he taught thousands of doctors over a career into the 2000s. The doctor amassed his collection over several years with dedication, care, a critical eye for detail, and cultural appreciation.
