French Napoleon III period patinated bronze and slate mantel clock, late 19th c., surmounted a draped male figure, modeled as the ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes, seated beside scholarly instruments and open scroll, inscribed with the quote "Donnez moi un point d'appui et je souleverai le monde (Give me a lever long enough and I shall move the world)," dial with Roman numeral hour markers, unmarked time-and-strike movement, on stepped platform and front paw feet, accompanied by pendulum and key, time movement observed operating, stable hairlines to slate base and back and lower sides, approx 18.25"h, 23"w, 8.25"d, 71lbs
