Custom-upholstered throw pillow, fashioned from fine 18th/ 19th c. liturgical vestments, with padded goldwork embroidery executed in gold and silver metal threads, depicting a pelican mother wounding her breast to feed her young, representing the Catholic symbol of the "Pelican in Her Piety," framed by rays of light, scrolling foliates and flowers forming cartouche, brocade ribbon trim with couched metallic thread border, on beige silk backing, with tassels at upper corners, down-filled insert, approx 24"l, 24"w, 11"d, 7.75lbs Provenance: The collection of Kathryn V.
