Lot description

Model 1841 U.S. Percussion Rifle, Harpers Ferry, mfg. 1857, .54 caliber, 33" round barrel, blade front sight, steel ramrod threaded at one end, two brass barrel bands, fixed rear sight behind cutout for another sight, the barrel opposite the hammer with visible marks "U.S., J H.(or JHK ?), V over P", the left barrel flat marked "STEEL" and "M", the lockplate marked with forward of the hammer with an eagle over "U.S.", the lockplate marked behind the hammer on three lined "Harpers Ferry 1854", two oval inspection marks at left stock wrist with lettering obscured, brass trigger guard, two sling swivels, white cloth sling, brass patch box at right buttstock, brass buttplate marked "U.S." at upper tang, wood and metal with expected wear and scratches, barrel mostly brown with some black, action is good and correct between trigger and hammer, the bore is extraordinarily clean and seemingly without surface rust as far in as can be seen by cataloger, overall approx. 48.5"l, 9.60lbs
