Eagle Head sword, 19th c., possibly a French import for a mounted artillery officer, the straight 31.25' unstopped fuller blade with foliate engraving at both sides, one side with a banner "E Pluribus Unum" over the federal eagle, the langet with federal eagles, a 'S' form guard with floral decoration and chain connecting it to the eagle head pommel, the handle appears to be bone with limited incised decoration, no maker markings, overall 36.3/8"l, 1,29lbs *Note: Photos of similar swords are found in Flayderman's pictorial book "American Swords from the Philip Medicus Collection".
