Colt Model 1877 Lightning .38 caliber Double Action revolver, mfg. 1886, 3.5" barrel, two line address at top "Colt's PT F.A. Mfg Co., Hartford, Ct. U.S.A." blade front sight, marked "S" at barrel underside near frame, , sighting groove at frame top, six round fluted cylinder marked "S" at front end, three line patent dates at left frame Colt black rubber logo grips, "A" stamped at left trigger guard, the backstrap is engraved "B.P.D. 7", matched serial numbers at front of trigger guard and frame, the metal is silver tone with wear to nickel plating, grips retain checkering logo and have surface crack at lower left side, action is good, bore is bright with good rifling, SN 56478 *Note: It is well documented that many police forces were issued this model revolver.
