French Napoleon III burlwood cigar box/ humidor, Jean-Pierre Alexandre Tahan (French, 1813-1892), hinged case with parcel-ebonized banded and stringwork trim, centering cut brass cartouche with obliterated monogram, revealing three cigar trays, lock plate marked "Taran, 11 Blvd. Italiens," approx 8.25"h, 11.5"w, 8.75"d, 6lbs Note: Jean Pierre Alexandre was a prominent tabletterie and cabinet maker active in Paris after inheriting the company from his father. Appointed in 1855, Maison Tahan is perhaps most notable for their status as the "Fournisseur de l'Empereur," or furniture supplier to the emperor, to Napoleon III
