Lot description
Antique American carved wood glider rocking horse, attributed by consignor to Phillip J. Marqua, c.1870s, in a polychrome-painted finish, with inset glass eyes, natural hair mane and tail, patinated leather saddle and fringed fabric saddle blanket, leather bridle and ears, mounted on bentwood frame, unmarked, intact with stable splits, repair to horse's front left leg, horse: approx 25.5"h, 34"w, 9"d, overall: approx 28.5"h, 37"w, 12"d Provenance: According to the consignor, this hobby horse was recovered from the attic of famous Civil War veteran John Coleman Roberts' (Texas, 1831-1908) Bremond, Robertson Country estate. Purchased directly from one of Roberts' descendants.
