Regence style parcel-gilt and carved wood throne chair, 19th c., pierced crest and bolster wings with foliated scrollwork and figural masks, white-painted accents, padded back, seat, and curved arms in a later burgundy velvet upholstery, rising on stretcher-joined tapered legs headed by shell motifs, approx 53.5"h, 39"w, 23"d, seat height: approx 16"h Provenance: Dallas, Texas: When the madness of collecting collides with connoisseurship; per consignor, acquired from the contents of actress Gloria Swanson's (1899-1983) Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey mansion, possibly a gift from Joseph P.
