Lot description
(pair) Neoclassical style parcel-gilt and green-painted wood standing planters/ jardinieres, after the original design by Jean-Baptiste Vinceneux (French, c. 1726-1795), paneled rectangular basin with gesso over carved wood scrollwork and foliate ornamentation, central monogram MT (Marie-Therese, comtesse d’Artois), with inset liner, apron issuing floral swags, on carved spiral twist legs joined by cross-stretcher, terminating at central urn and quiver of arrows, approx 39"h, 28"w, 22.5"d Note: the original design was utilized as a stand for a maquette/ model of the La Samaritaine, commissioned by Charles-Philippe, comte d’Artois, as gifts for his sister, Marie-Antoinette, and bride, Marie-Therese of Savoy. One of these stands is now housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, accession number 1983.185.7
