(pair) Large Italian earthenware chargers, each with incised decoration after Pintoricchio (born Bernardino de Betto, Italian, 1454-1513), details from the frescos in the Piccolomini Library in Sienna, Italy, depicting scenes from the life of Pope Pius II (born Enea Silvio Bartolomeo Piccolomini, Italian, 1405-1464), including: (1) depicting Pope Pius II leaving for the Council of the Basilica, inscribed "Enea Piccolomino, Parte per il Concilio di Basilica, Pinturicchio, Pertici, Montopoli Arno Italia" underfoot, (1) depicting a sailing ship at sea, illegible inscription verso, each: approx 22.25"diam, 19.5lbs total
