Lot description
British Four Slot spadroon, last quarter18th c., a straight blade sword having a 27.75" blade marked below and parallel to the spine at the left ricasso "READ" indicating James and successor Thomas Read of Dublin, Ireland, the business founded in 1670, the steel guard is open with four slots at the blade end and tapers to a single piece ending on the globular pommel, the handle appears to be black grooved hardwood, the steel finish is overall dark with numerous nicks at the blade end, overall approx. 33.25"l, .90lbs
