(3) Scarce Jacob De Cordova Map Of Texas, 1854 Edition

Scarce "J. De Cordova's Map of the State of Texas Compiled from the Records of the General Land Office of the State by Robert Creuzbaur, Houston, 1854", the map was created by Creuzbaur, an employee of the Texas Land Office, upon being commissioned by De Cordova and using the detailed records of the Land Office, this 1854 edition was the last to be printed in Texas as De Cordova sold his rights to the map to the J.H. Colton Company of New York, this map was offered and unsold at the February, 2003 auction "Dorothy Sloan-Rare Book Auctions #13" and retains the same condition as then described "professionally conserved... gently cleaned and deacidified by hand...the map, which was split at folds, has been laid down on acid-free Japanese tissue, and tears have been repaired... a few small voids at old splits and some age toning and oxidation... trimmed close at borders (small losses of line border at all four corners), age toned, and with occasional mild staining and creasing," there is a faded ink notation near the lower left of the map with the signature of Theophilus Kramer, apparently a one-time owner of the map, it comes with Dorothy Sloan original catalog, map approx 22.75"h, 21 1/16"w   Notes: Jacob De Cordova, Jamaica, Texas, 1808-1868; Edmund Robert Creuzbaur, Germany, Texas, 1826-1871, cartographer; John Hutchins Colton, Massachusetts, New York, 1800-1893; "John Theophilus Kramer, Northern born, self titled doctor and abolitionist, purveyor of patent medicines (ads included with this lot), traveled the Southern states, author of the 1859 book "The Slave Auction," R.
