Lot description

(lot of 4) WWII Aircraft Data Plates all obtained from out of service planes at the Boca Raton Army Airfield in 1945 by a USAAF student pilot: (1) Boeing B17E Flying Fortress Data Plate, dated February 8, 1942, stamped with serial number 2383, historic records indicate that the plane was used for pilot training at various U.S. bases including MacDill Field, Dow Field, Bolling Field, the plane was involved in several crashes and eventually was stationed at Boca Raton and used for ground airframe instruction, (1) WWI data plate from a Vultee BT13A Trainer plane, also known at the "Vultee Vibrator", U.S. Army Air Corps serial number 42-89343, Vultee serial number 11720; (2) Bell Airacobra Fighter, Model P39D-1, mfg. date 5-13-42, serial number 14A-76, the serial number indicates that this plane was originally designated for use in the WWII Lend/Lease program enacted in 1941
