Mid-century modern hand-woven Aubusson tapestry, "Soleil Couchant," c.1956, after the cartoon by Jean Lurcat (French, 1892-1966), woven at the Ateliers Pinton, signed lower left in the weave PF (Pinton Freres), mounted to a backing fabric on stretchers, overall: approx 40.5"h, 47.75"w, 9lbs NOTE: accompanied by a 1956 signed letter from the artist (translation): Les Tours St Laurent, July 19, 1956, "The tapestry "Soleil Couchant" which bears the number P.F.202 and measures 1.03 x 1.21 m, was woven at Ateliers Pinton, based on a cartoon created by myself, Jean Lurcat.
