Framed lacquer painting (son mai) on wood panel, Portrait of an Artist, signed upper left T. Chuong (Thanh Chuong, Vietnamese, b.1949), dated [19]97, sight: approx 15 1/8"h, 11 1/8"w, overall: 21.75"h, 17.75"w, 9lbs Provenance: From Donald and Renate Van Stone's Austin, Texas estate. Donald Van Stone served as the Regional Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago from 1971-1984, a time in which the bank was expanding internationally. After assignments in Germany, Kenya, and Australia, the Van Stones moved to Manila, Philippines where they began amassing an impressive collection of Chinese and Southeast Asian art and artifacts, some of which will be offered in this auction.
