Renaissance Revival gilt-bronze mounted drinking horn, after the 16th century original by Cornelius Gross (Augsburg, master before 1534, died 1575), modeled as a dragon with a finely engraved glass drinking horn forming the body, liquid issuing from the dragon's mouth, a small satyr bearing a coat-of-arms on its back, standing above a tortoise, on an oval base with sea serpents, hippocamp and a sailing ship surrounded by waves, two very small chips to underside of glass body, approx 12"h, 14"l, 5 1/8"w, 4.5lbs Note: the original in the collection of the Kunstkammer Wien, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria Provenance: A prominent Terrytown, Austin, Texas estate
