(lot of 4) U.S. Army 1878 Haversacks, Saddle Bags: (1) Pattern 1878 haversack marked at the front "U.S.", hand marked "Gipson" and below possibly "K", original leather carry strap. the back with one of originally two 'D' rings. soiling, verdigris; (1) Pattern 1878 haversack, the front marked "F" / "1/ crossed rifles / "3" / "ORD" / "U.S." / "54", the back side with two hooks for waist belt attachment, soiling; (1) Pattern 1878 haversack, the front marked crossed rifles, "U.S.", "Texas" , "34" or 84", the back with two 'S' hooks on 'D' rings for waist belt attachment. soiled; (1) pair, "U.S." marked canvas single closure strap saddle bags, originally joined by a wide leather strap, now apart due to leather aging, outer flap approx. 11..25" x 12", opens to three storage sections, no makers marks, canvas is quite dirty and needs cleaning, for shipping approx. measures 20" x 14.25" x 13.75", total of all 6lbs   Provenance: Collection of T'Odon Charles (Chuck) Leshikar, Jr., (Texas,1946-2020), Vietnam, U.S. Army Lt. ,“Delta Raiders,” D Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, later Echo Company commander, Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, Soldiers Medal, Purple Heart.
