(lot of 5) Vintage guilloche enamel ladies' accessories, including: (1) small compact, marked FM CO (Finberg Manufacturing Company), both exterior sides with engine-turned decoration, light yellow enamel, hinged lid with hand-painted roses, interior compartments for blush and powder, (1) powder compact on ring, (1) powder, blush, and lipstick compact on ring, (1) rectangular compact on chain, marked D.F.B. Co. (D.F. Briggs Company), hinged lid with engine-turned decoration, light blue enamel, hand-painted roses, interior liner installed upside down, mirror plate fractured, (1) small pill box and propelling pencil on a silver-tone metal chain, box lid not closing securely; largest case: approx 3"l, 2.25"w, 0.5"d, 321 grams total Provenance: From the estate of Dorothy Jean McPhaul, whose small East Austin antique shop, Johnnie’s Antiques, has survived for generations despite rapid city expansion. McPhaul, a true lover of all things antique and a retired educator with a 40-year tenure at the LaGrange Public School system, personally collected African American memorabilia, jewelry, glassware, pottery, amongst other rare and fine antiques. Established by McPhaul’s grandfather, Simon Sidle, in 1918, Johnnie’s Antiques is among the last vintage properties on East 6th Street, and notable as one of the first black-owned businesses in Austin. After assuming proprietorship in 1999, Dorothy followed in the family tradition as a fixture of the Texas antique sale circuit.
