Art Nouveau sterling silver charger, attributed to Oliver Baker for Liberty & Company, repousse rim set with stone cabochons, with 1902 and Birmingham hallmark L & Co., as well as a M & Co., assayer misstrike, probably done at the Haseler Reverse, engraved December 25, 1904, engraved numbers N527 8096, perhaps for insurance purposes on back, approx 15"diam (38 cm), 1473 grams (inclusive of all materials) Note: Oliver Baker was a designer contracted by William Hair Haseler, a renowned UK silversmith. Born in Birmingham, England in 1821, he founded his company in 1870. It specialized in gold and silver work. At around the same time, the famous department store of Liberty and Company opened and quickly became a must-shop hub of world goods that promoted the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts styles.
