Overview & History
Founded in Copenhagen in 1904 by silversmith Georg Jensen, the firm became synonymous with the finest Danish design, producing jewelry, flatware, and hollowware in flowing Art Nouveau and, later, clean modernist styles. Collaborations with designers such as Henning Koppel and Sigvard Bernadotte are especially prized. Value depends on the designer, design number, age, weight, and condition - rare designs and important hollowware command premiums well beyond melt value.
Identifying & Marks
Look for the 'Georg Jensen' name in a dotted oval or circle, a design number, the sterling/925S mark, and sometimes a designer's initials - together these date and attribute the piece.
